Rumor: YAKUZA -Dead Souls- will not be remastered or remade, while Ryu ga Gotoku: Kenzan! can receive a port

According to a Japanese user on Twitter, the title Ryū ga Gotoku OF THE END (YAKUZA -Dead Souls- in the West) will not receive a remastered or remade version for current platforms, due to the low profit margin that a new port would receive. This information would have come from Masayoshi Yokoyama, currently a writer and designer at Ryu ga Gotoku Studio, during a live broadcast interview made for YouTube. Because the video is broadcast in Japanese, the information cannot be precisely confirmed, and therefore must be considered a rumor.

Still according to HARUSARI, the same principle does not apply to another spin-off title in the franchise, Ryu ga Gotoku: Kenzan! which, according to him, is a title for which there is demand, due to the need to acquire an old console, a practice that is not very common among the Japanese. Furthermore, the information would have been confirmed personally with the interviewee during an in-person event. Finally, Kenzan! it is a game that was better received than Dead Souls, both in its homeland and in the West, which corroborates the thesis that the game will be remastered or remade.

Read a little more about each of the titles below:

“Ryu ga Gotoku: Kenzan! is an action-adventure game developed by SEGA for the PlayStation 3 console. The game was released in Japan in March 2008 and is part of the “Ryu ga Gotoku” (or YAKUZA) series as a spin-off title, which is famous for its engaging stories, intense combat and open world elements. Unlike Kenzan!Ryu ga Gotoku: Ishin! was released as a cross-gen title (PS3 and PS4) and recently received the “Kiwami” treatment in the form of a remake, which is available on multiple platforms in the West.

Ryu ga Gotoku OF THE END (or YAKUZA -Dead Souls-) is another action spin-off of the franchise, released on PlayStation 3 in Japan and the West, in 2011 and 2012 respectively. Despite being a significant departure from the series’ traditional formula, it received mixed reviews. Some praised the unique approach and humor incorporated into the game, while others felt that the shift to a zombie setting was an unnecessary departure from the established formula of the main games in the series.”
