In recent time, Hololive has been keen on fending off many controversies unlike some of their competitors (IE: We’re looking at you Nijisanji), but when these types of events happen, the community feels it as a whole and it sends waves across the scene. The last big incident that involved a talent termination came in 2022 with the former Hololive Gen 3 Uruha Rushia in which she was terminated for leaking sensitive information to 3rd party entities. As it turns out, history has repeated itself. In an official post by – both the JP & EN – Cover Corp. X (formally known as Twitter) accounts, they have posted an official press release that states that as of January 16, 2024, they have officially terminated their Virtual Youtuber Master Agreement contract with Hololive Generation 1 talent, Yozora Mel.
As stated in the press release, Hololive has confirmed that Mel has been engaging in acts that violated her contract by leaking information to third parties that she acquired from the company and felt that the breach was serious enough that they had no choice but to terminate and release her from her contract. Even with her long tenure within Hololive, the company felt that this was a serious breach of contract that warrant the termination. Yozora Mel is part of Hololive’s Generation 1 talents who debuted back on May 13, 2018 along with her gen mates Aki Rosenthal, Akai Haato, Natsuiro Matsuri, & Shirakami Fubuki. As stated above, Cover Corp. will be closing Yozora Mel’s Youtube channel and all memberships at the end of February 2024 (same as they did with Uruha Rushia back in 2022). With this, Yozora Mel is officially the fourth talent within Hololive JP to be terminated for a serious violation within Hololive following behind Hitomi Chris, Mano Aloe, & Uruha Rushia.
The remaining members of Hololive Generation 1 have posted a livestream video giving their official statements regarding this termination on Shirakami Fubuki’s channel (for now, this is only in Japanese).
